How to Celebrate Earth Day, Everyday at Work

If you care about the environment and also want to engage and motivate your employees, Earth Day is a perfect opportunity to take action and build lasting change for years to come.

Celebrating the planet in the workplace isn’t just good for the environment, it’s good for people, too — and your business, according to USA Today columnist Steve Strauss.

Here are 5 activities you can do at your office to help the planet:

1. Start a company garden

company garden is a fun way to get employees outside and help them relieve some stress. Gardening can also be an excellent source of physical activity. While creating a company garden might sound difficult, it’s actually a lot easier than you might think!

2. Volunteer in the community

We often think of the environment on a large scale, but it’s also about your local environment. You can harness the power of your organization and its employees to improve your local environment in simple ways.

For example, you could organize your employees into volunteer teams to clean up the local park, remove garbage from a nearby beach, or your towns streets.

3. Experience nature

What better way to celebrate Earth Day and raise employees’ appreciation for it than by being in nature? Organize an employee outing to a beautiful forest, lake or mountain nearby.

4. Switch to reusables

Earth Day is a great time to commit to going single-use cup, mug and bottle free at your workplace. The Fill it Forward program is an easy way to commit to sustainability. With the app your employees can track their impact, give clean water, earn prizes, and track their hydration.

Sometimes, the best Earth Day events are those that extend beyond the day itself and encourage meaningful changes over a longer period of time.

5. Start a Competition

Use the Fill it Forward app to offer incentives to your employees by holding monthly gift card draws for team members who refill and scan their reusables!
