6 reasons to always carry a reusable water bottle (and never buy bottled water again!)

We all know that single-use water bottles lead to more waste in our landfills, and all that single-use plastic can hurt our environment. It can take up to 450 years for a single-use plastic water bottle to degrade naturally in a landfill. To give you a little perspective, the US alone consumed around 50 billion water bottles… last YEAR. On average, Americans only recycle around 23 percent of their plastic waste, meaning around 38 billion water bottles went straight into landfills. That’s a lot of waste.

So what can you do to help reverse this trend and still stay hydrated? Simple: Fill your reusable cups, mugs and bottles with water from your home. This isn’t just the better option when it comes to environmental protection and sustainability, but it’s also a healthier choice for you!

Still unconvinced to switch? Here are 6 benefits of ditching single-use bottles that will keep you (and the earth) healthier and happier:

1. Reusable water bottles stop pollution

Pollution from discarded single-use water bottles affect our oceans, our wildlife and can have a devastating effect on the environment. They cause damage when they are being produced, and when they are discarded.

If you’ve walked through any city street or, unfortunately, any nature-hiking trail, there’s a good chance that you’ve seen at least one single-use plastic bottle on the ground. It’s an unfortunate fact that single-use plastic bottles are a huge source of environmental pollution and are one of the most common items found in the giant trash island out in the middle of the ocean.

2. It will save you money

You might be surprised at how much you end up spending on water when you buy a new bottle every time you are thirsty. A one time investment in a reusable water bottle will ultimately save you a fortune. Bottled water is hundreds and sometimes even thousands of times more expensive than tap water. The average American spends about $5.00 per week on bottled water, meaning you will save enough to pay off your reusable bottle in less than a month, and save over $200 dollars a year by supplying your own water to drink.

3.  They’ve got better durability

Reusable water bottles, especially like those we make here at Cupanion, are rugged and durable. Take them on your bike ride, hiking on the trails, or even just when you’re doing some work around your home.

4. You’ll be saving animals

Sea animals so often mistake single-use plastic bags and bottles for food. And even when they don’t, there is so much broken down single-use plastic in the water that they inevitably digest it. No more single-use bottles means happier sea life!

5. Send a message, join a worldwide movement

Using a reusable water bottle is like bringing your own bag to the grocery store – it shows you care about the environment and brings awareness. Better yet, join in on the fun and Fill it Forward every time you refill your reusable so you can help give clean water to a person in need!

6. More convenient

Last but not least, reusable water bottles are so much more convenient. If you have one, and remember to use it, you will always have your drink when you or someone else needs it, you will always know exactly what its contents are, and you’ll always be able to use it again next time. Properly cared for, a quality water bottle is a lasting investment in your everyday convenience.

So, if you haven’t already gotten yourself a reusable water bottle, we hope that this list has persuaded you to get one for yourself, your friends, and your family – they make for great presents! Be a part of the movement to help the environment!

  1. I like what you said about using a reusable water bottle to avoid contributing to environmental pollution. My brother has been telling me about how he and his family want to make sure that they’re doing their part to help the environment. I’ll share this information with him so that he can look into his options for getting water bottles that can help with this.
